Creation Corner - Inspiring Tips

Tips for your new kitchen
So much to think about but nothing to worry about

Personalizing your design is all about you! So how would you define your lifestyle in terms of the required functions needed for your new kitchen?

The ABC's of your lifestyle
  1. Are you a growing family with children and need more convenience and ease of use?

-Adding a kitchen island to your new design can be the ideal solution for more convenience. An island will be your families multi-tasking station, where you join together making pizza's or chat with your kids while you prepare supper or pack lunches for the next day while they enjoy their bedtime snack. And as a bonus your island offers additional storage space underneath for items like pots and pans or for food and containers you'll use for packing lunches.

-Whether renovating or adding an addition onto your home, take time to consider a walk-in pantry or at minimum a closet pantry to complement your new kitchen design. Once you have one- you will never be without. Have you ever considered selling your vacuum cleaner and doing your floors by hand? Pantries can offer that same attachment syndrome because they offer an extensive amount of storage space for oversized kitchen appliances that take up much of your room in your cupboards that is needed for readily available access items that you require use of daily. Pantry's give you a place to put all those bulk packaged foods that we buy and offers a place to keep our kitchen seasonal treasures in and what better place to put those lunch and book bags instead of on the floor each night.

-Last but not least, if you have a family you are already a practical thinker so to speak. But some final tips to getting your dream kitchen at the same time; choose colors for your walls that won't mark up easily as little hands will be grasping onto them. Choose flooring that is durable and a color that doesn't require a daily cleaning and choose a stain or finish for your cabinetry that doesn't show fingerprints easily. This will allow you to form your own style and your own dream colors that display your tastes while offering your whole family the chance to enjoy it too!

  2. Has your kitchen become out-of-date or style and now you want the look and options of today's kitchens?

-Today's kitchens seem to be very mindful of color. Colors seem to inspire people more today than ever, or perhaps we have just finally caught on to this! But if you're considering taking your kitchen from the 1970's or 1980's and turning it into a kitchen of today, than think colors and what inspires you. Remember this is most likely where you'll start everyday- allow your kitchen to inspire you.

-It's time to make a trip to the local newsstand to pick up some decorating magazines!

  3. Are you empty nesters who now have the option of treating yourself?

-Finally the time has come when you can think in terms of quality over quantity! And you have no excuses to not put yourself first. Think in terms of innovation- something new just for you! Perhaps you'd enjoy coming down for morning coffee and reading your paper while sitting in front a large sun filled bay window.

-It's the finishing touches of your custom kitchen that will bring you the little extra that perhaps you had put on hold before. Consider making space for a large piece of framed art work that brings that something special feeling each time you'll pass by it. And now is the time to venture into fabricated chairs that add extra comfort while you dine! The sky is the limit for beauty in your home!

  4. Do you entertain often or now have grandchildren adding to the crowd that comes over for visiting and find you just simply run out of space?

-Now may be the time to knock down some walls and either recreate your existing space or perhaps an addition is warranted to get the comfort back into your home.

-Today's open concepts allow you to keep the warm day to day feeling in your home while at the same time gives you the option to put the leaves in the table and extend your room to accommodate your crowds. Having a kitchen and living room area completely open to one another allows this simple transition to occur and than quickly turn back into separate rooms. Custom pillars can enhance the divided feel of the rooms at the same time as add to the finishing touches.

  5. Is someone in your home an avid cook and would enjoy nothing greater than a kitchen that suits a chef?

-Did somebody say "crème brulée"? Nothing complements a cook like their kitchen. A chef's kitchen needs four basic stations to function smoothly:

Prep station: A kitchen island can be a real masterpiece for a chef the drawers will offer storage for cutting/grating utensils and larger apparatuses/cutting boards in the bottom drawers.

Food storage: A new kitchen design can allow you to now accommodate just the right fridge that suits your needs. Thoughtful cupboard designs will offer extra wide/deep drawers, sliding drawers, a spinning lazy suzan and a pantry that will be like a library to a librarian!

Cooking station: Your new layout will allow you to add the appliances that meet your flare, whether traditional, conventional or gas/propane- can you say custom? A unique tiled backsplash will add charm to your kitchen decor at the same time as maintain your walls from all the cooking and steam.

Clean up station: Now that all the fun is over, time to clean up. But now with ease of use, an oversized sink with high taps with spray nozzles to accommodate pots and a garberator will quickly get the job done.
